Core Skills are those that the Persons Served use on a daily basis. These can include anything from relaxation techniques, to playing a sport, or even personal hygiene routines. Creative Empowerment Opportunities aims to develop and strengthen these skills through different activities and lessons. A brief description of each of the 12 Core Skills is given below, including examples of activities that may be done in order to further develop these skills. 

Activities of Daily Living

 Teaching skills in all basic areas of life. These skills include personal hygiene,    cleaning, cooking, nutrition, and safety among other things. 

                                                                                                       

 

Social Skill Development

Teaching self-control & etiquette through the use of gentle teaching (i.e. handshaking, eye contact, voice tone and cadence, body language, proximity, etc.).

               

              

 

Relaxation

Teaching the Person Served how to relax their body response to stress, through various techniques.

                        

                          

Horticulture

Teaching the Persons Served how to support and maintain plant life.

                        

     

Sensory Integration Skills

Teaching the Persons Served how to be aware of their senses.

                  

Vocational Skill Development

Teaching the Person Served the skills needed for employment and volunteering.

                

   

Functional Academics

Teaching the Person Served all areas of academics based on their learning capabilities. These areas include science, math, colors, and reading.

                               

        

Recreation

   Teaching the Person Served how to engage in activities that bring feelings of leisure & fun.

                                                                                                                

Communication Development

Teaching the Person Served ways to communicate their needs (i.e. voice tone, sign, pictures, etc.).

                        

Technology Skills

Teaching the Persons Served how to use various technologies like computers and tablets.

                                    

                                  

Pre-vocational Skill Development

Teaching Persons Served the core skills needed for vocational skill development.

Teaching the importance of maintaining good physical health.
